Ian Henderson has drive, energy, and intellect which he uses to drive projects forward to completion on time and to budget. He is also a great guy to work with. If you want something done, it will be done! Ian can deliver! He helped implement a major networking project while at the same time running the IT department as Interim Director of ICT. He subsequently helped me in re-structuring the department, a big job. He is professional in all his undertakings. Cannot speak too highly of him.
Ian provided first class guidance and direction as to our IT requirements and strategy as we emerged from the comfort of support from a Group plc IT to “standing on our own two feet” as an independent business. Effective and positive internal and external relationships were established swiftly by Ian. His ‘sleeves were rolled up’ and much of the “nitty gritty” of operational IT issues were tackled directly, successfully, and with aplomb, and no fuss. I was lucky enough to find Ian during a period where our European IT operation was in a free fall. Ian is clearly an expert in turning a situation around. He has the soft (people) skills and the technical and operational knowledge to steer the ship on the right track. Ian is a first-class interim manager of IT services, with a high level of technical and people skills. Certainly, my introduction to the London Borough of Greenwich was eased significantly by the excellent hand-over I received from him, both verbally and in documented form. I have no hesitation in recommending Ian for similar roles.
I was fortunate to work with Ian over the last two years on some significant transformation projects at Greenwich Council. Ian’s desire and commitment to get the right outcome for the Council was outstanding. His style and enthusiasm for ICT has elevated the need for intelligent ICT provision within the borough. I was approached by a member of the Interimconnect network to quickly find an interim ICT Director at Thurrock Thames Gateway Development. I need someone really experienced with Public Sector experience so contacted Ian. He was quickly interviewed and appointed . He had a number of tricky issues to deal with but he dealt with all these and with excellent feedback from Thurrock Thames Gateway. I would certainly recommend Ian for further interim ICT roles.
Ian worked for me as an Interim ICT Manager for a period of around 6 months. I had recently been tasked with transforming the ICT service but, with no detailed background in ICT, I recognized that I needed some help! Ian undertook a number of tasks for me including reviewing the ICT Network, procurement of a new SAN and helping to introduce change management procedures. He also patiently explained a whole range of technicalities to me and the impact of various technologies. I would not profess to be an IT expert, but I now have a far greater understanding thanks to Ian. Ian is an excellent interim Manager who will drive and deliver change but does so with patience and a good sense of humour.
In December 2006, the college appointed lan of Henderson Services LLP to design the IT infrastructure for the new college. This was to involve network design with state-of-the-art cabling, telephony, Wi-Fi, off site connections, access, cashless vending, automated library systems and advice on the latest hardware and innovations. The total IT project costs were in excess of £1.4 million. lan had just completed a successful installation at Aston University Business School and was highly recommended by Couch Perry Wilkes, our M & E consultants. In addition to the design, lan met regularly with the team to ensure that the communication was clear from the earliest stages. He also worked closely with the college technical team and supported their development throughout the project. His design was very successfully implemented and proved a very sound foundation for the second stage of procurement. In addition to lan’s technical expertise, he is also very sensitive to the cultures of institutions and makes technical advice very accessible to the lay person.
I worked with Ian when he joined CenSus ICT as an interim to help us through a difficult period of organisational change. This also coincided with our first PSN (Public Services Network) submission. It was fortunate for the partnership that he was in post at this time as I believe that without Ian’s persuasive skills we would not have secured the necessary funds to deliver the immense programme of work and without his ability to create a sense of urgency, we may not have delivered on that programme. Ian is probably one of the most jovial people I’ve had the pleasure to meet. He was still firm and fair, giving me constructive feedback when appropriate and he held himself accountable for the actions of his team. He always took the time to thank me for my efforts and it’s these little things that help to motivate staff. If you’re looking for an interim who isn’t afraid to stir things up to make improvements, then Ian could well be the man you are looking for!
Ian is a most experienced and talented advisor and practitioner in the field of IT and major projects. His eye for detail and ability to also take a wide overview of complex problems makes him an outstanding partner in both medium and large assignments.
Ian was able to quickly bring control to a process that had gone very wrong. This control over what we had and what we intended to do provided a firm basis that enabled SAP to be successfully implemented within the company.
